When School Ends, The Need Doesn't

One of the realities of summer is that when school ends, meals disappear.

For many families, school provides more than education. It provides a reliable lunch each day. When summer arrives, parents suddenly have to fill that gap at home.

At The Store, we see that challenge every year.

That's why during the summer months, we provide extra grocery items for households with school-aged children. We stock more kid-friendly foods and offer special snack bags that help fill the long days between meals.

Recently, I was helping with intake when it was time to hand out those snack bags.

I gave one to a young girl, and her face immediately lit up.

It was such a small moment. A simple bag of snacks.

But it reminded me that addressing food insecurity isn't only about calories.It's about making room for joy.

It's about helping children feel seen.

It's about giving parents one less thing to worry about during a season that can already feel stretched.

I'm grateful for the volunteers who packed every bag, the donors who helped make them possible, and the families who trust us to walk alongside them.

Sometimes hope looks like a full grocery cart.

And sometimes it looks like a child smiling over a bag of snacks.

That's a good reminder of why this work matters.
