LBP (Lower Back Pain) was founded in August of 2025 when father and son, Ash and Alexander Shah decided they wanted to be in a rock band together. Alexander had been playing the guitar, drums, and learning multiple other instruments (like the sitar!) since elementary school, including knowing most of the Led Zepplin and AC/DC licks by the age of 10. Ash realized back then that if he wanted to spend time with his son, he would need to learn to play the guitar too. Over the years, Alexander went on to play in hundreds of sessions with a myriad of bands until they hatched their plan. Adding Jamison Rotch at rhythm guitar and Anthony Belott at bass, they then auditioned Jay Wellons as lead singer and LBP in its fullest sense was born!

Lead guitarist Ash Shah's musical journey began when he joined the Columbia record and tape club at age 13. His first album was Rush’s Permanent Waves and the rest was history. AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and then Pearl Jam became the soundtrack of his youth and early adulthood. He is also a heart surgeon at Vanderbilt Health.

Alexander Shah, the band’s drummer, is a rising junior at Ensworth High School and like many aspiring musicians here in Nashville, lives and breathes all things musical. This summer he spent a two-week term at the Berklee School of Music program in Valencia, Spain.

Jamison Rotch is a veteran writer and producer with more than 25 years of experience working in television and with Fortune 100 companies. After a career spent behind the scenes, he will be in front of as the rhythm guitarist for LBP.

Bassist Anthony Belott is an 80’s metal head who long ago was in a basement band that “never made it out of the basement.” He is the Chief Development Officer of American Oncology Network based in Florida.

Jay Wellons, lead singer, is a writer and pediatric neurosurgeon at Vanderbilt Health. He grew up singing Episcopal hymns with his mother in church and then became a Deadhead at boarding school.
